WPD noncompliance

The WPD headquarters is noncompliant with multiple state and federal requirements that have been implemented since the building was constructed in 1974.

Picture
The building is not ADA compliant.

Examples: - The public entrance is not handicap accessible.
(There is a rear entrance without steps that can be used when necessary.)
- The two story building does not have an elevator, prohibiting disabled members
of the public and temporarily disabled employees from accessing
the floor with full lavatories, locker rooms, break room and briefing room/ meeting room/ training room / EOC.
- Bathrooms do not have ADA compliant fixtures.
Picture
The building does not have a sprinkler system or smoke alarms,
only heat sensors.
Picture
The building does not accommodate
the separation of criminal and non-criminal areas

Example: Complaints (non-criminal) are taken at the table above and
fingerprinting (criminal) is done in a small open area around the corner
and at the counter pictured.
Picture
The building does not accommodate
interviewing multiple suspects at a time.

Examples: There is not a dedicated interview room nor sufficient space in the Detectives' cubicles to conduct multiple interviews simultaneously and privately.

Picture
The building does not accommodate processing and detaining juveniles
away from adults by both sight and sound.

Examples: - A wall separates the 4 holding cells seen through the doors above but the area does not meet the "sound" part of the requirement.
- The complaint and fingerprinting areas do not allow
for the separation of juveniles and adults.
The indoor shooting range does not meet OSHA requirements
nor the distance requirements for officer certification.
