Wilton Police Department
The building's infrastructure is mostly original and extremely inadequate. The electrical system is original and overloaded, creating safety and operational issues. The communication infrastructure is outdated and stretched. The HVAC is inefficient, inconsistent and unreliable. The fire protection system consists of heat sensors only. The roof leaks and the firearms storage and training facility are inadequate.

The locker rooms have insufficient storage space and are poorly ventilated.

The WPD headquarters is noncompliant with multiple state and federal requirements that have gone into effect since it was built in 1974.
|
Since the WPD HQ was built the size of the department has almost doubled, evidence retention requirements have changed, the amount and types of equipment and supplies has increased and technology boomed. To cope with this growth of people and things rooms have been repurposed, closets and storage rooms have been turned into workspaces and hallways have been turned into storage areas.
|
The types of technology and equipment used by the WPD has changed and increased significantly since 1974. Multiplied by a department that has almost doubled in size during that same time period, the aftereffect is an enormous amount of technology and equipment and an enormous amount of space needed for its use and/or storage. Because it was not designed to accommodate any of those things the net result is a severely overcrowded 44 year old building.
